August 28, 2012

Hello everyone!

This last week has been a little hard.  I got a little depressed last week.  This week is going to be different.  Thank you all for your letters and packages.  Many of them came when I was at the lowest of my low last week.  I have rededicated myself to be more obedient and more diligent in all that I do.

Cool stories of the week:

- Gave a pass along card to a guy packing heat! (He had a gun)

- I was riding my bike (whose name is Teancum, a warrior from the Book of Mormon) really fast trying to get to an appointment when a car few past us. Then, someone threw a handful of change at me as hard as he could while passing us at a pretty fast speed.  All of the change flew around me as if there was a force field surrounding me.  Pretty cool!  None of the speeding change hit me and I kept pedaling without missing a beat.

- I gave 2 blessings this last weekend, my first ones ever.  One was for a man who is really stressed because he is going be homeless.  He used to be in prison and his record is hurting his ability to find a job.  The other blessing was for a preemie baby.  That was interesting.

Investigators: (please pray for these people)
A part member family who we are reactivating.  I love this family, true southerners. They remind me of the Claytons.  I love Sister . . .  and she is so close to accepting the Gospel.

My companions name is Elder Christensen, from Washington.  He is a lot like me but a little more reserved.

I know that my Heavenly Father loves me and answers my prayers. Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer, as a representative of Jesus Christ I testify that He loves us all and He wants us to use the gift of the atonement that He has given us.  I know because I am a witness of His love for other people, because I feel that love for all I meet and for all of you back home.  I testify of the words which I have said, that they are true for as long as I live and as long as the Lord lives, for all eternity.  In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

Love always,
Elder Gomm
PS my area is great!!!  It is the ghetto but be at peace, I am on the Lords mission and I have his protection.

Elder Gomm asked for more ties, paisley are his favorite.

August 20, 2012

Hi, everyone!!!!

North Carolina is awesome! My mission president is awesome!

My first area is consistered the ghetto of the whole mission. The black to white ratio is 80/20 ha ha ha!!!! We are on full bikes and man am I saddle sore!!!! For all of you at home think of Stockton or South Sac, its pretty legit. I have been making some videos and taking lots of pictures. There is a church on every corner and everyone attends some type of church.

My companion is great, a little quiet but a hard worker and great teacher! We have been teaching a bunch of people and we have found so many new people since I have been here. We are teaching a 90-year-old black lady who, in the middle of our restoration lesson, told us about how she saw a UFO in the 90's. We then continued to teach her about prayer and the Book of Mormon. We are reactivating a blind man who lives in the heart of the hood. He told his friend about us and so we are teaching his friend and girlfriend. His friend is an ex-con. There are so many cool stories that I wish I had time enough to tell. We are also teaching a part member family who hasn't been to church in two years and after I taught them the first lesson we challenged them to come to church, and they did! Their family is pretty golden. Well I have to go back to work! Love ya’ll!

Love, The Elder Gomm

PS I am going to attach some pictures that ya’ll should enjoy. :D

Good beans!

August 7, 2012 MTC

Hi everyone! I don't have much time! I tried to attach pictures but I don't think its gonna happen.

Life is great! I have had some really spiritual experiences. There was one time that I really felt to spirit after I finished a prayer. There was a debate going on with a few of the elders, I felt impressed to raise my hand and say something. When I spoke, I spoke calmly and spoke with no pre-recollection of what I was going to say. I just spoke. When I spoke I felt this physical, almost tangible power, flowing off my body and from my lips. All I can describe it as is the pure power of God. After I was done talking the room was silent and the elders were speechless. I love feeling the spirit in my life.

Another cool experience was when, I saw Elder McCaffree for the second time. I gave him a hug but he was only speaking Russian to me. I was sad because the elders going on to other countries are supposed to speak only their language after a few weeks. So I spoke to him in English and he spoke in Russian, the crazy thing was that I was able to understand what he was saying!  We were having a conversation in two different languages. It was truly the gift of tongues!!!  Pretty cool huh!

Well things are pretty fun here. I am slowly dying from the food. I have had a stomachache since I got here, but that's OK. Elder Poulson, my companion, averages 5 letters and 1 package a day. I get about a letter every 2 days and a package every 3 or 4 days, but that's ok. I never thought I would love mail so much and written letters are awesome!!!!  I want to make a new article of faith which says: We believe in mail, we pray for mail, we think of mail, we dream of mail, and packages are lovely and of good report and we seek after these things . . . as missionaries. There you go.

I have gotten really good at 4 square. That's all we play!  I am in love with the game!  I am known for my deadly backspin!  I think I will get to play tomorrow.

So that's all for now!  Life is good!  The Church is true, and the spirit's strong!  May the spirit be with you!

Love,
Elder Gomm

P.S. Please send me snail mail! I love pictures! Don't worry they don't make me homesick! I love them! OK Bye!

July 31, 2012 MTC

I love it at the MTC—the spirit is great! So strong!!!! I love my companion, Elder Poulson. He is just like me in a lot of ways, and we get along great. We get along so well that we think and act the same. Our goal is to live the rules and commandments with exactness. There are some crazy rules like that we can’t have our hands in our pockets at all and we cant sing in the halls. But anyway, my second day I got really sick; I drank some room temperature milk. It felt like I ate a box of razor blades. At the end of the day my district, which I love, gave me a blessing and I immediately was better. Wow, right?!  But seriously this MTC food is destroying us . . . so many of us have gotten sick off it.

The work is going well, I am constantly tired from feeling the spirit all the time. We have 3 investigators that we are teaching; all of our first lessons were train wrecks. Elder Poulson and I work great together and we work really hard. We didn’t know what we were doing wrong. :( We have been praying really hard for guidance and that we can teach with the spirit. We finally realized that all we were doing was teaching lessons and not people. We were not teaching to the investigators’ needs, because we don’t know them. We were having such a hard time just getting to know people. Yesterday was a really hard day! My companion and I were at the lowest of the low. I really just wanted to go home. We offered the most sincere prayer we could and asked for help. A few minutes later some of the experienced Elders talked to us and helped out. Our lesson last night went great! We finally got through to the investigator and the spirit was there! The church is true!!!! (that’s my new saying)

My district is awesome! We are all like brothers and we goof around just enough that it takes off some of the pressure. I did 200 push ups throughout the day because of this game we play—if someone looks at our hand when we do a certain sign they have to do 5 push ups. It has gotten way complex but it is so fun.

I have started to dream about missionary work. In the middle of the night someone knocked on my door and in my dream I answered "hi, we are missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and we would like to share a message with you..." ha! ha! ha! I love it.

Anyways, I love you all!!!!!!
Please send me written mail; us missionaries live for the mail. Send me photos, cards, anything. I love it. I need it! ha! ha! ha!

The Church is true and the spirit is strong!

Love,
Elder Gomm
